About Paint
|
One of the most important things you can do for your success is to choose the right brand of paint for your art style. The paint should spread easily and manipulate without excessive use of painting medium. If you find yourself continually dipping into painting mediums, then change brands of paint. Find a brand that is creamier and easier to use right from the tube. It's that simple. Allow us to share our personal story to illustrate this point. For many years, we continually found ourselves dipping into some kind of painting medium to make the paint we were using work for our techniques. The problem came with the vast assortment of painting mediums on the market that contain solvents. We don't want solvents in our art style. Several years ago, we started a search to find a paint maker who sells natural oil products without solvents, and who makes paint that creamier and easy to use. Our search ended in Europe with a paint maker in Milan, Italy. Gianni Maimeri, a professional artist who demanded pure paint to work with in his own studio, and his brother, Carlo Maimeri, who was an industrial chemist, started their own paint company. Eighty five years ago, these two brothers teamed up to manufacture a superior paint for artists using Old World paint making traditions and time honored techniques. The Maimeri company was literally built on the motto "oil plus pigment and nothing else". Maimeri grinds their powdered pigment so fine that the molecules of the pigment matches the molecule size of the liquid binder exactly, which makes a superior paint that's incredibly creamy and easy to use. Maimeri puts the fresh paint into vats to age like a fine wine. During this precious aging process, the excess binder rises to the top and is skimmed off, leaving only the rich, creamy pigment with exactly the right amount of oil to satisfy the requirement of "oil plus pigment and nothing else". When the paint is aged properly, THEN they put the paint into tubes and sell it to the public. The result is the creamiest paint we've used in 40 years! This paint spreads beautifully right from the tube and stays fresh on the palette much longer. The secret is the purity of pigment and the exact amount of oil, aged like a fine wine, bound timelessly together, to produce premium quality oil paint that is incredibly easy to use. In their commitment to purity, Maimeri also sells a FULL range of natural drying oils, such as Safflower Oil, Walnut Oil, Poppy Oil, Linseed Oil and Stand Oil. These are pure natural oils and DO NOT contain solvent. Each oil performs a different service to the oil painter, thus offering a wide variety of drying times and capabilities. Because of their commitment to purity, Maimeri is very bold about listing the ingredients of their art products on the label, in their catalog, and on their website so consumers know exactly what they're painting with. We respect that Maimeri integrity and love the quality of their products. We are grateful for the opportunity to teach our students how to enjoy pure pigments and 100% natural drying oils. Our heartfelt thanks go to Gus Dovellos who gave Linda her first box of Maimeri Puro oil paints to try. He told us it was the best paint in the world. We think the honest difference between the quality of paint in most brands versus Maimeri is the professional artist who founded the company. He used his own paint every day as an artist himself. He personally knew the quality of the paint he was making, and that his paint would satisfy the professional artist and delight the learning painter. Maimeri solved our problems and made our art styles safe and enjoyable. This Old World paint-maker with a personal dedication to quality and purity in paint making enabled us to keep our art style safe and satisfying for everyone to enjoy. Thank you, Gianni and Carlo Maimeri |
