Level One:  Genre Scenes

Getting Started with Genre Scenes

Learn the art of painting genre scenes to capture the nostalgic ambiance of country peasant life.

The photo shown here is an original genre art scene by 19th Century artist, Daniel Ridgway Knight.

Through a series of studies, you'll build a storehouse of painting techniques that are basic staples in painting genre scenes.

This online study course teaches how to paint the the elements of the peasant scenes in garden settings.

Students receive source materials for the painted exercises, however, they are also encouraged to use their own photographs for designing original country gardens scenes.

Portions of this painting are demonstrated on DVD for this course.
