Level One:  Genre Scenes

Getting Started with Genre Scenes

This year Linda will teach the art of painting genre scenes to capture the nostalgic art of country peasant life.

Working on a modified verdaccio foundation with a special custom color palette, featured in the Coultermix™Color System, beginner and intermediate painters can learn the art of painting genre scenes.

The photo shown here is an original genre art scene by 19th Century artist, Daniel Ridgway Knight.

One of our favorite Genre artists is Julien Dupre who was a French Realist that painted genre scenes of peasant people, cows, sheep and geese.  An example of his art work is shown here.

The quiet rural life of peasants tending cows, sheep and white geese is an enchanting theme to pursue for genre scenes.

Through a series of studies, you'll build a storehouse of painting techniques that are basic staples in painting genre scenes.

Another favorite is Daniel Ridgway Knight, an American Realist who painted ladies in garden settings.

Shown here is an original art work by 19th century artist, Daniel Ridgway Knight to exemplify his American genre scenes.

Level One teaches how to paint these kinds of scenes and all elements involved.

In Level One, you'll learn a storehouse of EASY techniques for painting genre scenes.

This year, Linda Coulter will offer the Level One ...Genre Scenes exclusively as an online study course. Students will study the works of Daniel Ridgway Knight and Julien Dupre and paint from the teacher's original source material using Coulter art styles and techniques to make Genre Scenes easy and enjoyable.
