Luminism

Luminism.... "the sublime landscape"American landscape painting flourished in the mid to late 1800s with the Hudson River School of landscape painters. Cole, Church, Durand, Johnson and Bierstadt were a few of the key artists in the Luminist Movement of the 19th Century. Some of their awesome art works sold for as much as $25,000 each during those years.
Poetic beauty resonated in their landscapes and was achieved by focusing on the conditions of light and sky to create feelings of tranquility or drama.
The Hudson River School artists were renown for their mastery of painting unspoiled American wilderness caught in a radiant sunrise or sunset. The awesome beauty and grandeur of these American landscapes struck a note of pride and optimism in our country, and celebrated the signature of God in America. The Mastery of Light, Color and SpaceLinda and Amanda Coulter have been studying the works, concepts and techniques of these great American Masters of the 19th Century. Coulters have developed a NEW art style with all new techniques that enable today's busy painters to achieve dramatic results.
These two original paintings by Asher B. Durand represent the skillful command of light and atmosphere that was typical of the Hudson River School of artists.
Thomas Cole was the founder of the Hudson River School, with Albert Bierstadt, Frederick Church, Asher B Durand, David Johnson and others joining his group of American landscape painters of the 19th century. Linda Coulter understands the principles of illumination and delights in applying those to artist canvas when creating Luminist Landscapes. She has developed a collection of painting techniques and merged them seamlessly with the world's creamiest artist paint from Italy to capture the same kind of drama and inspiration as the Hudson River School of landscape artists of the 19th Century. Linda's Luminist Art Style is fun and easy to learn. For many years, the Coulter family has been photographing the scenic vistas of the American countryside. Original photographs taken along the Hudson River Valley in New York, the White Mountains of New Hampshire, Litchfield Hills of Connecticut, Rocky Mountains of Colorado, and the sweeping vistas of California vineyards. Many of these special places are where the Luminist artists of the 19th Century lived, worked and created their inspirational works of art. From Coulter's original photographs come a NEW series of inspirational landscape paintings that capture the spirit of America. |
