Miss Kitty on a Floral Tapestry ChairHere's a very complex background made easy with Linda Coulter's grisaille techniques. Miss Kitty is sitting in Cathy's new tapestry chair, and oh, isn't she pleased to be there! We couldn't resist painting this beautiful chair in our pet portrait course.
Here's the original photograph that Cathy sent to me to for reference material for the pet portrait. I used just enough chair to make an interesting portrait of Miss Kitty, and show you how to simplify this beautiful floral tapestry.
See how much more the kitty is featured when some of the background was removed? Now I made a pattern and traced that onto a 12 x 12 inch canvas. Notice how the tapestry chair is painted in the grisaille techniques.
Now all we have to do is add pure color glazes and a few opaque color accents to complete this beautiful pet portrait.
