Mother Nature uses light rays to create the colors of nature. The artist uses colored paint to create the illusion of light.
In a light ray, the combination of all colors creates white.
In colored pigments, the combination of all colors creates black.
Therein lays the artist's challenge in painting from nature. Nature's colors and colored pigments are exact opposites. Linda Coulter will teach you the technology and techniques to paint luminous scenes and radiant flowers from nature!
Learn
the fascinating techniques of creating from nature with grisaille painting. This
process divides and conquers the design process by allowing you to create the
design with values, textures, details and the illusion of sunlight and shadow
before any thoughts of color.
When the classic grisaille design is completed, then ... and only then... do you think about color. Using delicate transparent pure color glazes, you'll add the essence of color over the grisaille design. That process takes only a few minutes and the design is 90% finished!
When you reach that point, then it's time to add the glamour and glitz with select opaque color accents. Voila! You have create a beautiful full color masterpiece.
Note: An alternate design, the beautiful Casablanca Lily, is available as this class project to students who do not wish to paint the white peace rose. The lily project teaches the same techniques and color theory education. Please notate which project you prefer to learn when you Register for this seminar. Thank you!

Now it's time to explore color schemes. You'll learn all the classic color schemes in the lecture/ demonstration in class. Then you'll have the opportunity to choose the color scheme that will match or enhance your home decor as you add color to this beautiful white peace rose project.
The artist can paint a white subject using any color scheme if the laws of color phenomenon are satisfied. Linda Coulter will teach valuable tips, techniques and technology to enable her students to thoroughly understand the Laws of Color Phenomenon, and then be able to apply that knowledge to the class project.
Friday Class: Linda Coulter will lecture for one hour in the morning to explain color theory and color schemes. This will allow you plenty of time to decide what color scheme you'll choose to complete this beautiful peace rose class project.
Then students will paint a white peace rose in grisaille during the morning. Then in the afternoon students will choose a color scheme to finish their project. We'll add sheer translucent pure color glazes over the grisaille art work, and then add the pizzazz with select opaque color accents.
Note:
Students who do not wish to paint a peace rose may apply the same techniques to
the beautiful white Casablanca Lilies.
Please notate your choice of which flower you wish to paint curing class when you Register for this seminar. Thanks!
Friday Evening Lecture: Linda Coulter will lecture for 2 hours Saturday evening to explain and illustrate color phenomenon that enables artists to create the illusion of sunlight and shadow using colored pigments. You'll learn the secrets of painting glorious sunlit skies and hazy mountains, soft gentle trees and sparkling water. Students will learn and discuss the secrets to creating luminous effects in painted landscapes.
Saturday Class:
Students will paint a luminous landscape. This provides the student the opportunity to
use what they learned
last night, and apply it to artist canvas during Saturday class. Linda will
bring 3 different landscapes and each
student can choose which scene they want to paint during class.
