Trompe l'oeil is a French term for tricking the eye to believe a flat surface looks sculptured.

 

 

Here you see an example of a flat colonial tavern sign that is painted in trompe l'oeil to produce a sculptured appearance.  This design is coming to you as a Workshop on CD.
