Verdacio

Verdaccio is an Italian art technique from the Renaissance and Baroque eras. If used traditionally it is very similar to grisaille but with green tones rather than graytones to define tonal values. Traditional verdaccio underpainting allows soft, cool green to peek through the subsequent warm color glazes and broken color passages to create a dynamic effect of realism through simultaneous contrast. Modified verdaccio used with au premiere coup techniques is a much more relaxed method of creating equally dynamic results without an underpainting. Linda Coulter has developed a special color palette that employs a natural thread of custom colors to harmonize figure painting with landscapes quickly and easily. This streamlined approach integrates the flesh tones of a figure with natural hues that surround that figure in a genre scene. Caucasian flesh exhibits naturally a soft green cool undertones while earthy greens dominate the natural landscape to act as a unifying agent for the rich warm hues of earth, flowers and warm sunlit clouds. Far distant hills are rendered with softly grayed hues ranging from cool greens, blues and violets to muted warm pinks. For many years, Linda Coulter was known for using a modified verdaccio canvas toned with a special soft green custom color to create realism in her commissioned portraits. This special foundation also easily co-ordinates the flesh tones of a figure with surrounding landscape and muted hues of distant hills, lakes and forests to create exceptionally easy genre scenes. Coultermix Color System™ features perfect custom colors to facilitate ease of handling, thus allowing beginner painters and weekend painters to accomplish beautiful results in a genre scene. Linda Coulter is a master at simplifying complex subjects to bring the magical qualities of fine art to the beginner's easel.
